Born in St. Paul, Minnesota

1974

Graduated from Highland Park High School in St. Paul.

I was very active in sports including distance running, skiing, boxing, and karate.

1974

Visited Japan for the first time, travelling to Kobe, Kyoto, and Hyogo.

Returned to Japan to study Zen Buddhism in Fukui Prefecture. After three years I travelled to Okinawa to train in karate.

1980

Returned to the U.S. to complete my degree in education and teach karate at the St. Paul YMCA.

Graduated from the University of Minnesota and began teaching Japanese and Physical Education at Apple Valley High School in Minnesota. I later taught Japanese at Century College in Minnesota.

1982

Northwest Airlines -Customer Service/ Interpreter

1993

Moved to Akita, Japan to work for Akita Nissan Motor Co. in sales and marketing. I transferred to partner company Sanden Trading in 1995 to work in the Imported Products Division.

1999

Moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to work as a training coordinator and interpreter for Hirata Corp. of America, a custom automation manufacturer.

2006

Became assistant general manager at Hisada America, a tier-II automotive supplier.

2009
